Manyube Named Sun Belt Conference Women’s Tennis Player of the Week

NEW ORLEANS – App State Tennis sophomore Naledi Manyube has been named the Sun Belt Conference Women's Tennis Player of the Week, the conference announced on Wednesday.

The George, South Africa, native had an impressive weekend, going 3-0 counting both doubles and singles, and extending her win streak to seven consecutive victories in singles play. Manyube earned her sixth and seventh straight singles wins in matches against No. 48 South Alabama and Southern Miss at home.

She started the weekend by securing the Mountaineers' sole doubles victory, partnering with Olwyn Ryan-Bovey to win 6-2 in the No. 2 position. Manyube then continued her dominance in singles, claiming a straight-set victory (6-0, 7-6) from the same spot.

The following day, against Southern Miss, she posted another strong singles win, defeating her opponent 6-3, 7-5, which helped propel the Mountaineers to their second conference win of the season. With the victory over the Golden Eagles, Manyube now has six straight-set singles wins at various positions.

Manyube currently holds a 9-1 record in both singles and doubles. Along with her seven-match win streak in singles, she also holds a four-match win streak in doubles.

App State Tennis will continue its season on Saturday, traveling to Huntington, W.Va., to take on the Marshall Thundering Herd. The team will return to the High Country on Sunday to host East Carolina at noon, with a special dedication ceremony for the naming of Courts One and Two prior to the match.

The 2024-25 tennis season is presented by Hound Ears Club.
