NEW ORLEANS – For the second time in two collegiate seasons, App State's
Savannah Dada-Mascoll was named to the women's tennis singles All-Sun Belt first team, the conference announced Tuesday.
Dada-Mascoll tore through the competition this season on the way to a 16-2 overall singles record and 9-1 conference record all as the No. 1 singles player for App State.
"Savannah has had a great season," said first-year Head Coach
Hannah Fetters. "Winning first team all-conference is a testament to her dedication, work-ethic and undeniable talent. Watching her compete this season has been nothing short of amazing. It is an honor to coach Savannah, who continues to set the standard for excellence here at App State."
During her impressive sophomore season, Dada-Mascoll earned 16 consecutive singles wins to set a school record. She started her immaculate winning streak with a 2-6, 6-3 [10-4] victory over Virginia Tech's Katie Andreini on Feb. 5, which garnered her Sun Belt Player of the Week honors.
The Yorkshire, England native rode a seven-match winning streak into conference play. She continued her winning ways in the league opener as she defeated James Madison's Daria Munteanu 6-3, 6-0 and earned her second Sun Belt Player of the Week honors of the season, making her a three-time winner in just two years.
She proceeded to win nine straight matches in conference play, with her lone loss to 118th-ranked Sofia Johnson from Old Dominion in three sets 6-2, 5-7, 4-6.
Dada-Mascoll was also a first-team selection in her freshman year when she secured 15 singles wins, with eight wins in conference play as the primary No. 2 player for the Mountaineers.
As a team, App State has a combined 26-18 overall record and 14-8 Sun Belt mark in Dada-Mascoll's two seasons on the squad. In the two seasons prior to her arrival, the team went 10-30 overall and 7-13 in the Sun Belt.
App State will face James Madison in the second round of the Sun Belt Tournament on Thursday, April 25. Coverage will begin at 2 p.m., and the match will be available to watch on ESPN+.
