CONWAY, S.C. – The App State tennis team opened their 2023 schedule Friday and Saturday at the Lynn Stevens Memorial Invitational in Conway, S.C. The event was hosted by Coastal Carolina.
The team competed in doubles and singles action on both days, and played teams from Coastal Carolina, Queens University and Wofford University.
In head coach Hannah Fetters' first competition as head coach at App State, her squad won two of three doubles matches on Friday. She saw three Mountaineers win their singles match over the course of the two-day event.
Junior
Olwyn Ryan-Bovey opened the tournament with an undefeated day, pairing up with
Brooke Demerath and winning her lone doubles match of the day against Queens. Ryan-Bovey then took the court as a single and won both matches 6-4, 6-4 and 6-4, 6-2 against Coastal Carolina and Wofford.
Maggie Pate and newcomer Naledi Manyube were the other two Mountaineers to post wins this weekend, as Pate posted a doubles win and a singles win on Friday, while Manyube was victorious in her doubles match against Queens, her singles match against Coastal and her last singles match of the weekend against Queens.
Overall, the Mountaineers finished the event with a 2-7 doubles record and a 5-9 singles showing.
App State will next take the floor at the UNCG Invite on Oct. 13-15, for their second fall tournament.
