BOONE, N.C. – South African tennis standout
Naledi Manyube has signed to join the App State tennis program for the 2023-24 season, head coach
Ashleigh Antal announced Friday.
"We're incredibly excited to have Naledi join our App tennis family this fall," Antal said. "Her work ethic and high-level playing pedigree will play a pivotal role in our continued success next season. Naledi embodies what it means to be a Mountaineer, and she will undoubtedly make an immediate impact."
A native of George, South Africa, Manyube represented her home country last month in the Billie Jean King Cup Europe-Africa Group competition, which took place in Oeiras, Portugal. It was her second season on the national squad, previously helping South Africa to a fifth-place finish in Skopje, North Macedonia in 2022.
Manyube, who has been ranked as a top-10 junior player in South Africa and a top-300 junior player worldwide, burst onto the scene in February 2022 when she won three ITF Junior Grade 5 titles in a two-week span, culminating with a title at the J5 in Durban. She was also part of a tandem that won the girls doubles crown at the event.
Manyube previously competed in the U18 ITF Finals in Johnanasburg, where she made it to the championship match.
"I really like the message and values that App State has. I really resonated and connected with them," Manyube said. "And seeing that App State is a growing environment, I would love to be a part of a program that is always looking to grow and improve."
The daughter of Vusumzi and Ntombekhaya Manyube, she plans to major in exercise science at App State.
