Mountaineers Set for Duke Invitational

BOONE, N.C. - The App State men's and women's track team is ready to travel to Durham, N.C. for the Duke Invitational on April 6-8. Thursday's action will feature the men's and women's hammer throw and discus, which will start at 10 a.m. and go throughout the day. Action on Friday will start at 11 a.m. and Saturday's events will start at 10 a.m. 
 
Last Time Out 
The Mountaineers competed at the Texas Relays in Austin, Texas, Bill Carson Invitational in Greenville, N.C., and Colonial Relays in Williamsburg, Va. last week. 
 
Seniors Jada Branch and Taylor Smith headed to Austin, Texas to represent App State in the program's first appearance at the Texas Relays. Branch recorded a leap of 12.89m (42' 3.5") to place seventh in section B of the women's triple jump. Her mark is a mere .01m from her personal best of 12.90m (42' 4"), which she recorded at the 2022 NCAA East Prelim. Smith recorded a mark of 5.65m (18' 6.5") in section B of the women's long jump, placing 15th overall, and clocked a personal best of 11.77 in the women's timed 100 meters, taking second in her heat and 32nd out of 127 competitors. 
 
At the Bill Carson Invitational, junior Chris Wainscott posted first-place finishes in the men's hammer throw (53.96m (177' 0")) and men's shot put (17.69m (58' 0.5"), PR), in addition to recording a third-place finish in the men's discus (48.81m (160' 1")). Juniors Taylor Fox and Braden Underwood tied for first in the men's pole vault with clearances of 4.41m (14' 5.5") each. 
 
On the track, senior Mariah Atwater clinched first in the women's 400 meters with a personal best of 55.03, which moved her to second in the App State all-time list. Atwater also took second in the women's 200 meters with a time of 23.68. Junior Jasmine Donohue stopped the clock at 2:19.44 for a personal best and first-place finish in the women's 800 meters. In the men's 400-meter hurdles, freshman Christian Gore finished first with a personal best of 54.48, while junior Jabari Dalton finished second with a time of 54.60. Junior Cole Krehnbrink took first in the men's 400 meters (48.06) and third in the men's 200 meters (21.60, PR). In the men's 110-meter hurdles, freshman Harrison Robinson clocked a personal best of 14.18 to place second overall and move to 10th in the App State all-time list. 
 
At the Colonial Relays, senior Oliver Wilson-Cook set pace for the Mountaineers in the men's 10,000-meter invitational, clinching first with a personal best of 29:53.08. Junior Ryan Teuscher also recorded a personal best of 30:58.62 to place 14th overall. In the men's unseeded 10,000 meters, junior Ben Datte finished third with a time of 32:27.54. 
 
In the women's 10,000 invitational, senior Madison Christy took 10th (36:49.51, PR) and sophomore Linnea Maynard took 13th (37:15.38, PR). Sophomore Catherine Breault finished fourth in the women's unseeded 10,000 meters, clocking a time of 39:05.35, while fellow sophomore Abby Granberg placed 11th with a time of 40:25.76. 
 
Ranked Mountaineers
Around the Sun Belt, 24 Mountaineers check in at the top-10 in 18 individual events. Branch checks in at second in the women's triple jump, while Atwater checks in at third in the women's 400 meters and fourth in the women's 200 meters. Wainscott remains second in the men's shot put and ninth in the men's discus, and moves to sixth in the men's hammer throw.
 
In the USTFCCCA Southeast Region team rankings, the men round out the top-25 and the women rank 26th. Individually, 17 Mountaineers stand in the top-25 in 13 individual events in the Southeast Region. Branch ranks second in the women's triple jump, while Wainscott stands steady in the men's shot put (sixth), men's hammer throw (19th), and men's discus (20th). 
 
In the NCAA East Prelim qualifying list, Krehnbrink and Wainscott are joined by Branch and Robinson among the top-48. Branch ranks 12th in the women's triple jump, Wainscott moves to 29th in the men's shot put, Robinson checks in at 42nd in the men's 110-meter hurdles, and Krehnbrink moves to 45th in the men's 400 meters. 
 
The women's 10,000-meter event squad ranks ninth in the USTFCCCA's first week of outdoor event squad rankings.

On April 14-15, the Mountaineers will take a short trip to Hickory, N.C. for the Lenoir-Rhyne Invitational.
