Softball Hosts Georgia State in Weekend Series

BOONE, N.C. – App State softball is set to host Georgia State for a weekend series at Sywassink/Lloyd Family Stadium.

The series will begin with a doubleheader on Friday at 4 p.m. The series finale will be played on either Saturday or Sunday, TBA.

The doubleheader on Friday will not be streamed, but the series finale will air live on ESPN+. The entire series will have live stats available to follow along.

SCOUTING THE MOUNTAINEERS (20-22, 1-12 SBC)

  • App State looks to bounce back from a four-game skid in its schedule after losses to South Alabama and Western Carolina.
  • Preseason all-conference selection Kayt Houston ranks 13th in the Sun Belt in batting average (.365) and is one of only seven players that have reached 50 hits this season.
  • All three of App State's starting pitchers have an ERA of 3.22 or better. Kaylie Northrop leads the way with eight wins and an ERA of 3.06 while striking out 82 batters, the 13th-most in the SBC.
  • In conference action, Mary Pierce Barnes is seventh in the league in hitting and leads the team (.400).

SCOUTING THE PANTHERS (16-28, 5-10 SBC)

  • Georgia State has split its last two Sun Belt series', going 2-1 against James Madison before winning one of three versus Georgia Southern.
  • The Panthers are 26th in the nation and third in the Sun Belt in stolen bases, having stolen 78 so far this season. Emily Brown has snagged 20 of her 21 attempts, ranking fourth in the league.
  • Brown is also 33rd in the nation in hits (53) and leads the Panthers with a .370 batting average. Bailee Richardson follows close behind with 42 hits and a team-high 31 RBI.
  • Georgia State leads the all-time series against App State, 18-7. The Mountaineers have won five of the last seven.

UP NEXT
App State will face North Carolina A&T for a midweek contest on Tuesday before heading to James Madison next weekend.

  • Approved bags include clear plastic bags that do not exceed 12" x 6" x 12" and small clutch purses no larger than 4.5" x 6.5".
  • Bags that are not approved include diaper bags, backpacks, binocular cases, camera cases, tinted or printed pattern plastic bags, fanny packs, oversized tote bags & mesh bags, and purses exceeding 4.5" x 6.5". Exceptions will be made for medically necessary items after proper inspection at stadium entrances.
