CULLOWHEE, N.C. – App State softball is heading south for a midweek brawl at Western Carolina on Tuesday at 4 p.m.
The game between former SoCon foes will be streamed live on ESPN+ with live stats available to follow along. The contest has also been selected to air regionally over-the-air on The CW 62 (Asheville).
SCOUTING THE MOUNTAINEERS (20-21, 1-12 SBC)
- App State went 2-3 last week, sweeping a doubleheader against ETSU before falling on the road at South Alabama.
- Kayt Houston collected her 50th hit of the season on Sunday, becoming one of only seven Sun Belt batters to do so. Houston ranks 10th in the conference in batting average (.370) and runs (33).
- Mary Pierce Barnes has improved her output since the beginning of conference play, ranking seventh in the SBC in batting during league games (.400), totaling 14 hits across 13 contests.
- App State pitchers have a collective ERA of 3.23, led by Kaylie Northrop (2.74). Northrop has struck out 80 batters this season and Delani Buckner reached the 200-mark for her career on Sunday.
SCOUTING THE CATAMOUNTS (13-19, 3-6 SoCon)
- Western Carolina has split its last two Southern Conference series', going 2-1 against Samford before winning one of three at Chattanooga.
- The Catamounts' two leading batters, Brooklyn Brewington and Bailey Huneycutt, have each earned a SoCon Player of the Week award this season. Both average above .360 and have combined for 78 hits and 36 RBI.
- Four different pitchers have made at least six starts in the circle, led by Jayme Eilers. The senior has posted a 3.21 ERA with 47 in 56.2 innings.
- App State leads the all-time series against Western Carolina, 27-13. The Mountaineers have won five of their last six matchups against the Catamounts.
