DURHAM, N.C. – App State senior
Ryan Brown broke the longstanding 3000-meter steeplechase program record on Friday, as the men's and women's track team opened competition at the Duke Invitational in Durham, N.C.
Brown stopped the clock at 8:51.28 for a personal best, surpassing the previous school record of 8:51.40, which was set in 1996 by Chris Huffstickler. The Raleigh, N.C. native finished fourth overall in Friday's race.
In the group B section of the women's pole vault, junior
Celia Agee recorded a season-best clearance of 3.55m (11' 7.75") to finish sixth. Junior
Jasmine Donohue clocked a personal-best of 17:12.76 in the women's 5000 meters to finish 16th overall.
Sophomore
Nathan Karl recorded a toss of 14.69m (48' 2.50") to place 17th in the men's shot put. Senior
Zachary Weinstein and sophomore
Calbert Guest posted personal bests in the men's hammer throw (50.57m (165' 11"), 20th overall) and men's 5000 meters (14:29.38, 21st overall), respectively.
UP NEXT
Competition at the Duke Invitational resumes at 9:30 a.m. with the women's discus. The first event on the track will be the men's 4x100-meter relay at noon. The broadcast of the meet on the ACC Network Extra will also start at noon.
