BOONE, N.C. -- Following a Sun Belt series victory against Georgia Southern over the weekend, App State Softball (19-14) steps out of league play for a pair of midweek contests against ETSU (5-28) on Wednesday. The first game of the doubleheader against the Bucs is slated to start at 4:00 p.m. at Sywassink/Lloyd Family Stadium. Both games will be streamed on ESPN+.
The two teams were originally scheduled to play in a doubleheader on March 16 before the games were postponed. This will be the first of two doubleheaders between the Mountaineers and Bucs this season. App State will travel to Johnson City, Tenn. on April 19.
The Mountaineers remain at home this week after picking up the series win against Georgia Southern in their first home Sun Belt games of the season. App State won Friday's Game 1 by a final score of 2-1 thanks to a walk-off home run from Kayt Houston. The Sun Belt Player of the Week also recorded a pair of home runs in Game 2 on Saturday, pushing the Mountaineers to a 7-1 win to clinch the series.
The duo of Mary Pierce Barnes and McKenzie McCullen have accounted for 61 hits as each of them have driven in 22 runs on the year. Addie Wray has recorded 30 hits, reaching extra bases on three different occasions.
The App State pitching staff ranks fifth in the Sun Belt with an earned run average of 2.92. Sejal Neas and Taylor Nichols have recorded ERAs of 1.88 and 1.99, respectively. Delani Buckner and Kaylie Northrop have combined for 108 strikeouts this season.
Wednesday will be the first time the Mountaineers battle ETSU since last season. Both teams hosted a doubleheader last year with App State taking the victory in three of the four contests.
