BOONE, N.C. — App State Softball's scheduled home opener calls for a Carolina-crossing trip to Boone for Boston College.
Weather permitting, App State will host the Eagles at 4 p.m. on Wednesday. The game will be streamed on ESPN+.
The Mountaineers are 11-7 overall following a 4-1 weekend in which their only Bulldog Classic loss occurred against 16th-ranked event host Georgia. App State went 2-0 against both Ohio and UMass.
For the five games, App State batted .336 as a team, led by
Kayt Houston, who went 9-for-20 (.450) with seven RBIs, two homers, four extra-base hits and six runs scored. Four pitchers (
Delani Buckner,
Taylor Nichols,
Kaylie Northrop and
Sejal Neas) earned a win.
Buckner, the most experienced pitcher on App State's staff, has started seven games this season. In those starts, she is 5-0 with three complete games, a 1.39 ERA and 40 strikeouts in 35.1 innings.
Boston College is 11-7 overall, including 3-2 with four games left of a nine-game visit to the state of North Carolina.
The Eagles went 2-2 (with a pair of losses to Charlotte offsetting wins against Maryland and Villanova) during a weekend event at Charlotte before winning 9-3 at UNCG on Tuesday. They are scheduled to play a three-game series at North Carolina this weekend.
App State has never faced Boston College, which would become the first ACC program to play in Boone since NC State appeared at Sywassink/Lloyd Family Stadium to close the 2015 season.The Mountaineers were supposed to open their 2020 home schedule against Virginia Tech, but that game was canceled.
