A native of Charlotte,
Donovan Gregory just finished his junior season on the App State men's basketball team. He's also a recreation management major with a minor in general business.
For our Student-Athlete Spotlights series, let's get to know Donovan a little better:
Â
Q: What are some of your fondest memories so far from your time at App State?
A: "Winning the Sun Belt will always be my favorite memory at App. Another one I can think of is when we beat UNCC my freshman year. The crowd was electric, and that was a very fun game to be involved in, especially playing against my hometown team."
Â
Q: What convinced you that App State was the right place for you?
Â
A: "App State was close to home. I developed a relationship with the coaches and trusted them, and everything ended up working out."
Â
Q: Who have your biggest mentors on campus been?
Â
A: "My biggest mentors on campus include my entire coaching staff and also my academic advisor,
Stacy Sears."
Â
Q: Why is earning a college degree important to you and your family?
Â
A: "My parents have made sacrifices my entire life for me to be in college, and I feel like I owe it to them. I also have a little brother, and I know that he looks up to me, and I want to continue to be a good role model to him as his older brother."
Â
Q: What would you like to do professionally (after your sports career is over) and how has App State/your major contributed to that path?
Â
A: "After graduation, I would like to take over one of my dad's businesses and eventually open up my own. App State has taught me a lot about personal development. Within my major, I have learned to be a better people person, and I have gained leadership qualities."
Â
Q: Where would be your dream place to live and work?
Â
A: "Los Angeles or Las Vegas."
Â
Q: What is your favorite sport to watch besides your own?
Â
A: "Besides basketball, it would be college football."
