BOONE, N.C. — With each of its first 24 games having been played away from Boone, App State Softball is scheduled to open its home schedule Tuesday with a 4 p.m. doubleheader against Western Carolina.
The game will be streamed on ESPN+. The first 50 fans in attendance will receive a free #LetsRide shirt — #LetsRide is the team's motto and hashtag this season.
This is the third week in a row that the Mountaineers have been scheduled to play in Sywassink/Lloyd Family Stadium. Inclement weather canceled the March 9 home opener against Boston College as well as the next chance for a home opener on March 16 against ETSU (doubleheader).
Earlier this season, App State (14-10) opened the Cougar Classic in Charleston, S.C., with a 3-0 win against Western Carolina. The Catamounts bring an 11-11 record to Boone.
The Mountaineers are coming off a 1-2 weekend at Georgia State in Sun Belt play. One of
McKenzie McCullen's two weekend homers was a grand slam during an 11-0 win against the Panthers, and
Baylee Morton hit two homers in the series finale. She batted .571 and had an on-base percentage of .667 over the weekend.
On the mound, App State ranks fourth in the Sun Belt with a team ERA of 2.75 and has a league-low 38 walks issued.
The Mountaineers' offense ranks in the top five in the Sun Belt in slugging percentage (fourth), on-base percentage (fourth), runs (tied for fourth), RBIs (tied for fourth), runs (fifth), homers (fourth) and walks drawn (second).
Kayt Houston has the 10th-best average in the league at .349. Morton is No. 2 with an on-base percentage of .500 and No. 2 with 24 walks.
Emma Jones' 21 runs scored rank third in the league.
