CHARLESTON, S.C. — App State Softball has traveled south this weekend to play five games at the Cougar Classic hosted by the College of Charleston.

Last weekend's 3-1 run through the PC Invitational gave App State a 5-2 overall record with two weekends of the 2022 season completed.
In the first three games last weekend, App State outscored Detroit Mercy (two games) and North Carolina Central by a combined score of 24-1 while giving up a total of eight hits and recording 24 strikeouts in 19 innings thrown by

Delani Buckner,
Kenzi Lyall,
Taylor Nichols and
Sejal Neas.
McKenzie McCullen made her season debut at the PC Invitational, hit a three-run homer in one win and is batting .500 with six RBIs through four appearances.
Emily Parrott (nine RBIs),
Mary Pierce Barnes and
Addie Wray all have .350 averages with seven starts apiece.
SCOUTING THE OPPOSITION
— College of Charleston is 3-7 this season with a win against Troy, a 2021 NCAA qualifier from the Sun Belt.
— Western Carolina went 27-26 last season and is 8-4 this year (with a doubleheader split against Georgia State of the Sun Belt).
— UConn, which had a 22-20 record last year, is 3-6 this season with victories against Missouri, Penn State and Campbell.
