App State pitched its first shutout since a 34-0 victory over Toledo in the 2017 Dollar General Bowl.
It was App State's first home shutout since the 2015 opener against Howard (also 49-0) and the Mountaineers' seventh shutout since making the FBS climb in 2014. In addition to the three games noted so far, the other shutouts were 66-0 against Campbell (2014), 44-0 against Georgia State (2014), 49-0 against ODU (2015) and 24-0 against Louisiana (2016).

This was App State's first game this season that was decided by more than four points.

Since the Mountaineers' 2014 FBS debut, App State has the sixth-most wins (83) in the FBS in that span behind just Alabama (109), Clemson (103), Ohio State (98), Georgia (90) and Oklahoma (89).

The App State defense pitched its first shutout since the 2017 Dollar General Bowl win over Toledo (34-0) and did not allow an opponent touchdown for the first time since last year's 27-3 win against Georgia Southern.
In
Dale Jones' seven-plus FBS seasons as a defensive coach at App State, the Mountaineers have 48Â games allowing 17 points or less and 23 games allowing single-digit points.

The Mountaineers allowed just 223 total yards and 172 rushing to the Bulldogs' triple option attack, holding The Citadel to 2.9 yards per rush on 59 attempts.

App State defenders racked up nine tackles for loss and a pair of sacks, while forcing three fumbles and recovering one.

Dexter Lawson Jr. made a diving interception in the end zone to preserve the shutout in the third quarter.

KeSean Brown had a career day with a career-high 10 tackles, a sack, 2.0 TFLs and two forced fumbles.

In three quarters,
Chase Brice completed 12 of 18 passes for 265 yards with four touchdowns and no interceptions, while adding another score with his legs. The four touchdown passes are tied for his second-most as a Mountaineer, while the rushing touchdown was his first of the year and his fourth as a Mountaineer. His 80-yard touchdown pass to
Christan Horn was tied for his longest pass as a Mountaineer.

Nine different receivers caught a pass from Brice, the fifth time in five games this year that at least nine receivers have caught a pass for the Mountaineers.

Camerun Peoples ran for 102 yards on just four carries, marking his second 100-yard game of the season and the eighth of his career. His 73-yard touchdown run was the second-longest run of his career and the longest for a score.

Christan Horn hauled in three catches for a career-high 132 yards with two touchdowns. His 80-yard TD catch from Brice was his longest career reception, while he added a 22-yarder. He now has four touchdowns on the year and three in the last three outings.

Kanye Roberts, in his collegiate debut, ran seven times for 70 yards and his first career touchdown, all in the fourth quarter.

Dashaun Davis caught a 44-yard touchdown for his second score of the season.
