MOBILE, Ala. –
Lila Peters and
Lisha Van Onselen posted top eight finishes in the 10,000-meter run to lead App State women's track & field on Day 1 of the Sun Belt Championships.
After the first day of competition, App State sits eighth of 12 teams with five points. Host South Alabama holds the team lead after Day 1 with 37 points, Arkansas State is second with 36 points and Louisiana is third with 25 points.
Peters crossed in 37:17.47 for her sixth-place finish in her first Sun Belt Outdoor Track & Field Championship.
Van Onselen finished right behind in seventh place with a time of 37:28.06. It marks the second top eight finish of her career at the Sun Belt Outdoor Championships and first as a Mountaineer.
In prelim action, App State advanced two to the finals in the 1,500-meter run on Saturday.
Jasmine Donohue placed third in her heat and fifth overall to advance to the finals in a PR time of 4:35.92, while
Izzy Evely finished third in her heat and eighth overall with a time of 4:40.03.
The second day of competition will begin with field events at 1:30 p.m. EST and the long jump. Running events are set for a 6 p.m. EST start with the prelims of the 100-meter hurdles. Coverage of the second day of competition will begin at 6 p.m. EST on ESPN+.
