Mountaineers Head to Statesboro for a #SunBeltSB Series at Georgia Southern

STATESBORO, GA. – The App State softball team hits the road for the first time in seven games this weekend, taking on Sun Belt opponent Georgia Southern in a three-game series. The Mountaineers are currently on a nine-game winning streak, sitting at 20-10 overall and 4-5 in conference play.

About the Mountaineers

App State recorded its ninth straight victory last weekend, sweeping Sun Belt opponent ULM in a three-game series. With the win in the third game, the Mountaineers set a new program record for longest win streak.

The Mountaineers and Warhawks battled until the top of the sixth inning of the first game when the game was suspended due to weather. App State had the 8-2 lead. Game one was ruled a complete game win for App State Sunday morning, since the game made it to the sixth. App State and ULM then played a doubleheader beginning Sunday morning, with the Mountaineers winning both of those games 1-0.

Gabby Buruato and Kayt Houston continue to lead App State at the plate, hitting .370 and .341 respectively. Buruato leads the team in hits with 34 and doubles with seven. Her .370 average is good for 10th in the Sun Belt. Baylee Morton's seven home runs are T-2nd in the conference, as well as her on base percentage of .491.

Kenzie Longanecker has posted solid numbers in the circle for the Mountaineers. The 5th year senior is 11-3 on the season, with a 2.14 ERA and 54 strikeouts. Her ERA is good for sixth in the conference and her 54 batters struck out sits at seventh. Delani Buckner has also found herself in the Sun Belt rankings. The freshman has allowed the fewest runs with 20 and the least number of walks with four in her 39.1 innings pitched.

Double Play Magic

With 20 double plays turned this season, the Mountaineers currently lead the Sun Belt and rank third nationally in double plays turned per game with .67. App State tallied three against Radford on April 3, matching the season-high they put up against Texas State. App State has done a solid job avoiding the double play ball, allowing its opponents to turn only five against them.

Win Streak

App State broke the eight-game win streak record from 2019 as they recorded their ninth straight win against ULM. The 2019 team was the previous team to set the record, winning eight straight from Feb. 15 – March 1.

Scouting Georgia Southern
