WILMINGTON, N.C. — Tied in the fifth inning Saturday, App State dropped a 4-1 decision against UNCW at Brooks Field.
Sunday's series finale is scheduled for 1 p.m., with
Andrew Terrell projected to start on the mound for the Mountaineers (6-7).
App State's
Luke Drumheller, who went 3-for-4 at the plate, scored a tying run on a fourth-inning sacrifice fly from
Dalton Williams after going from first to third on a single by
Andrew Greckel, whose hit completed a 10-pitch at-bat.
The first batter of the game homered for UNCW, which improved to 9-3 by totaling three two-out runs with single runs in the fifth, sixth and eighth innings.
After allowing the leadoff homer to Brooks Baldwin, App State starter
Quinton Martinez retired 12 of the next 15 batters. A two-out single in the fifth inning broke a 1-1 tie, and
Noah Hall replaced Martinez with a runner on first and two away in the sixth inning.
A wild pitch and RBI single pushed UNCW's lead to 3-1, and the first two Seahawks batters of the eighth were retired before a walk, stolen base and two-out double capped the scoring.
Martinez officially allowed three runs in 5.2 innings, and Hall's season ERA stands at 1.69 after he struck out four batters over the final 2.1 innings.
