Black History Month - Camerun Peoples

In recognition of Black History Month, App State Athletics is featuring different student-athletes and the people that came before them that made them who they are today. Today's feature is on Camerun Peoples, a junior on the football team.

Who was your role model growing up?

My role model growing up was my grandfather. I looked up to him as a leader and father figure. He was the type of person who would do anything for anybody.

Who would you consider a trailblazer in your sport, either here at App State or nationally?

A trailblazer in my sport to me would be Jim Brown. He was an early-age running back who shined in a time where African Americans were going through troubling times.

What have you learned from that trailblazer?

From what I learned from Jim and doing research is that he never lost sight of what he had to do. He made sure that he continued to keep going forward.

What impact do you hope to leave here that could help benefit future generations?

I hope that I can be an inspiration to kids who come from very small towns and different backgrounds that they can make it anywhere in life, as long as they have faith and keep going and give their all!

How has your family influenced your athletic career?

My family has always been very supportive of everything I've done. They are always there when I need them and have stood by my side through every accomplishment and every downfall.
