POSTGAME NOTES: Louisiana 41, App State 13
Â
This was App State's 10th loss against a Sun Belt team (to 50 wins) and sixth Sun Belt road loss (to 23 wins) since joining the conference in 2014.
 Â
App State dropped its second straight game to Louisiana after winning each of the first eight matchups. This was the Mountaineers' first loss in Lafayette after winning the first three contests they played there.
Â
App State's record in games on ESPN, ESPN2 or ESPNU dropped to 38-13.
Â
With his 57th career start, super senior WR
Thomas Hennigan tied the FBS record (not including specialists) shared by Clemson OL Mitch Wyatt (2015-18) and Alabama OL Ross Pierschbacher (2015-18).
Â
OFFENSE
Â
Hennigan caught two passes for 25 yards and is now one catch shy of tying App State's all-time career receptions record of 208 held by Andrew Peacock (2010-13).
Â
Graduate transfer QB
Chase Brice scored a rushing touchdown for the second time this season.
Â
The Mountaineers did not convert a third-down attempt on 11 tries, but went 3-for-3 on fourth-down attempts.
Â
DEFENSE
Â
This was the first time the App State defense allowed more than 30 points to the opposing offense since the 2019 Sun Belt Championship Game (a 45-38 App State win against Louisiana), snapping an 18-game streak.

Junior OLB
Nick Hampton recorded his third sack of the year, moving his career total to 11.5.
Â
Senior CB
Steven Jones Jr. hauled in his third career interception and first of the year.
Â
In his second game back from a spring Achilles injury, super senior DB
Kaiden Smith posted a game-high 10 tackles.
Â
True freshman CB Travis McNichols made his first career tackles.
Â
SPECIAL TEAMS
Â
Super senior K
Chandler Staton made both field-goal attempts (from 31 and 27 yards) and has now converted all 10 tries this season.
Â
Staton, the Sun Belt's all-time leading scorer, added seven more points to bring his career total to 399, which surpassed the legendary Armanti Edwards (392) for second in school history behind Kevin Richardson's 444.
With 54 career field goals made, Staton needs one more to tie Bjorn Nittmo (1985-88) for the App State career record.
Â
Super senior P
Xavier Subotsch landed two of his three punts inside the 20, including a perfectly placed punt that went out of bounds at the Louisiana 2-yard line. He has now landed 15 of his 22 punts inside the 20 this year.
