BOONE, N.C. — Whether it's completing passes or picking them off, App State's
Zac Thomas and
Shemar Jean-Charles put their skills to productive use Sunday in the FBS All Americans Tropical Bowl near Orlando, Fla.
Thomas, who went 32-6 as App State's starting quarterback, led the National team to a 20-17 victory and was named its Offensive MVP. He threw one touchdown pass and unofficially accounted for 170 yards of offense, with an 8.4-yards-per-carry average.
Jean-Charles, meanwhile, intercepted a pass in the all-star game. That should have come as no surprise, considering the All-America cornerback led the nation in passes defended both as a senior in 2020 and during his two combined seasons as a starter from 2019-20.
On Monday, a day after the game, Thomas was named an East-West Shrine Bowl selection. The actual game has been canceled because of COVID-19 challenges, but selected players will still participate in virtual training sessions in preparation for the NFL Draft.
Also on Monday, Jean-Charles was listed as the 16th-best player in all of college football for the 2020 season by PFF College. Its ranking of the top 101 players also included App State's
Ryan Neuzil, an offensive guard listed at No. 85.
Many of the all-bowl teams from the 2020 postseason have been released, and running back
Camerun Peoples (317 yards, five rushing touchdowns) was honored by ESPN, The Associated Press and Bleacher Report.
Noah Hannon, App State's center, also received recognition from ESPN with the Mountaineers rushing for a total of 500 yards.
