TEMPE, Ariz. - For a third straight year, App State women's tennis was named an Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) All-Academic team, posting an impressive 3.61 GPA for the 2019-20 academic year. 
Seven of eight Mountaineers were named 2020 ITA Scholar-Athletes, which is the highest number of student-athletes that were honored under head coach Blake Mosley. At least three athletes have been named a scholar the last three years. Also, the 3.61 GPA for the year is .13 points higher than in 2019. 
Sandra Anglesjö and María José Zacarias are three-time scholar athletes while Kate Earnhardt and Sasha Pisareava made the list for a second time. The quartet of  Selina Atay, Cassie McLay, Virginia Poggi, and Teodora Sevo were honored as well.

The Black and Gold excelled both on and off the court despite the season ending early due to COVID-19. App State went 6-4 while cracking the top 50 ITA rankings at 49th, which was the highest in program history. The Apps defeated a ranked opponent in then-No. 48 East Carolina, and also earned an ITA Community Service award in the Carolina Region.
To become an ITA Scholar Athlete, one must have a grade point average of at least 3.5 (on a 4.0 scale) for the current academic year and have been enrolled at their present school for at least two semesters (including freshman through senior year). Programs that were recognized as ITA All-Academic Teams must have posted a team GPA of at least 3.2 (on a 4.0 scale).
