Collects Third Weekly Conference Award

NEW ORLEANS – For a third time this season, Sasha Pisareva was selected as the Sun Belt Women's Tennis Player of the Week, the league office announced on Wednesday.

App State picked up two 4-3 home wins against then-No. 48 ranked East Carolina and College of Charleston, extending its win streak to five matches and 12 consecutive home victories dating back to last season. Pisareva was undefeated in both singles and doubles, boasting a 2-0 record.

In the matchup against the Pirates, the No. 1 in singles for the Mountaineers remained undefeated by conquering Lisa Hofbauer in three sets, 5-7, 6-4, and 6-4 in a come-from-behind triumph after falling in the first set. In doubles, Pisareva and Virginia Poggi won 6-3 against Nastja Rettich/Michelle Ncube. The junior helped App earn its first win over a ranked opponent since the ITA rankings were established.

On Sunday against College of Charleston, Pisareva bounced back and won her singles match after notably losing the first set with Slade Coetzee with scores of 2-6, 6-1, and 6-3. In doubles, the player of the week teamed up with Sandra Anglesjö, winning 6-4 against Anastasia Palaska/Slade Coetzee to clinch the doubles point. Pisareva also clinched the singles point for the Mountaineers.

Pisareva is now 7-0 in singles and 3-3 in doubles, while boasting a 3-0 mark in three-set matches. She's played a pivotal role in the Apps recording the highest ranking in school history, jumping up to 49th in the country.

Her and the Mountaineers will head to Johnston City, Tenn.  this weekend to play against Charlotte on Saturday and ETSU on Sunday. Both matches will take place at 9 a.m.
