BIRMINGHAM, Ala. –
Jessica Dixon won the 400-meter dash in a school record time to lead App State women's track & field on the final day of the Sun Belt Championships.
The Mountaineer women finished sixth of 12 team with 49 points. Arkansas State won the team title with 138 points, Troy was second with 89 points and Texas State finished third with 80 points.
Dixon qualified second in the 400-meter dash on Monday. She turned in a time of 55.25 seconds in the finals on Tuesday to win the event by over .35 seconds and break the school record in the process. She becomes the fifth Mountaineer to win an indoor conference title in the 400-meter dash and first to do so since 2013.
Dixon also earned Second Team All-Sun Belt honors in the 200-meter dash with a time of 24.27 seconds. Her mark also moves her into third place in program history in the event.
Dixon teamed with
Jelonnie Smith,
Peighton Simmons and
Samara Gibson for all-conference honors with a third-place finish in the 4x400-meter relay in 3:47.80.
Simmons placed third in the long jump to earn Third Team All-Sun Belt honors. Simmons covered a PR mark of 19-7.50 (5.98m) for her conference accolades. Her mark also places her eighth in program history in the event.
The tandem of
Annika Merkh,
Araybian Lilly,
Sarah Venable and
Kylee Frady crossed fourth in the DMR in 12:09.83.
Taylor Smith also scored points in the long jump for the Black and Gold, finishing sixth with a mark of 18-9.00 (5.71m).
App State placed two in the top-eight of the 3,000-meter run.
Lisha van Onselen crossed sixth with a time of 9:59.04 and
Izzy Evely was right behind in seventh with a PR mark of 10:01.37.
LaBria King crossed sixth for App State in the 60-meter dash in a season-best time of 7.70 seconds.
Hassani Burris posted a PR in the triple jump, with a mark of 38-9.75 (11.83m).
In the 5,000-meter run,
Lila Peters scored two points for the Mountaineers with a seventh-place finish in a PR time of 17:41.50.
The Mountaineers will now shift their focus to the outdoor season, which begins Mar. 19 at the 49er Classic in Charlotte.
