App State Hosts Troy on Alumni Day

BOONE, N.C. -- App State men's basketball will welcome Troy to the Holmes Center on Saturday at 4 p.m. The contest will be broadcast on ESPN+ and can be heard on the Appalachian Sports Network from Learfield IMG College.

ALUMNI DAY
Saturday's contest is Alumni Day. The Mountaineers will welcome and honor over 50 alumni of the program during halftime. In addition, the first 500 fans receive a 100th anniversary lapel pin, the first 200 fans receive a commemorative poster and the first 100 students receive a t-shirt.

TICKETS
Tickets for the remainder of the 2019-20 season are on sale and can be purchased by calling the App State ticket office at 828-262-2079 or clicking here.

ALCOHOL
Plans for alcohol sales at select men's and women's 2019-20 home games include:
  • Craft beer, domestic beer and wine will be sold on the concourse near Section 12.
  • Service begins when doors open one hour prior to tipoff and ends at the conclusion of the third quarter for women's games and at the under 12:00 media timeout of the second half for men's games.
  • All patrons will be required to produce valid identification, which will be checked at the point of sale during each transaction.
  • Per state law, patrons 21 years of age or older will be permitted to purchase a maximum of one alcoholic beverage per transaction with valid identification.
  • Patrons will not be permitted to leave the Holmes Convocation Center with alcohol purchased within the venue.
  • Law enforcement and contracted security staff will monitor the concourse and seating areas for underage drinking, beverage pass-offs and problematic patrons or situations.
  • Public service announcements about drinking responsibly will be shown on the video board and announced via the arena's public address system.
  • Alcohol will be served at all men's basketball home games for the remainder of the season.
THE SERIES
  • This will be the 13th all-time meeting between the two schools with App State leading 8-4
  • The Mountaineers won the meeting earlier this season in Troy 70-65 on Dec. 21
  • App State is a perfect 4-0 in Boone against the Trojans
EARLIER THIS SEASON
  • App State overcame a 12-point second half deficit in a 70-65 win on Dec. 21
  • Justin Forrest had 25 points, five rebounds and three assists. Isaac Johnson tallied 15 points and eight rebounds and Hunter Seacat had nine points and five rebounds
  • The Trojans opened a 61-49 lead with 13:18 left to play in the game. From there, App State (8-4, 2-0 SBC) held Troy without a point for an 8:43 span, scoring 12 points in the process to tie the game at 61-61. Troy answered with a pair of free throws, but the Black and Gold tied the score at 63-63 on a layup from O'Showen Williams with 3:52 to play. The Trojans came right back with a basket to take the lead back at 65-63, but from there, it was all Mountaineers. Johnson tied the game at 65-65 with a jumper at the 2:28 mark of the second half and Forrest gave App State the lead with a 3-pointer with 1:45 remaining. Troy could get nothing going and the Black and Gold got free throws from Seacat and Johnson down the stretch to cap the victory.
SCOUTING THE MOUNTAINEERS
  • App State stands at 15-13 and 9-8 in Sun Belt play after falling to South Alabama 78-70 on Thursday
  • O'Showen Williams netted a career-high 32 points on a single game program tying 10 made three-pointers. Adrian Delph reached double figures for the second straight game with 12 points
  • Williams tied Ronshad Shabazz, who hit 10 threes last season at ULM, and Nathan Cranford, who drained 10 trey at Chattanooga during the 2006-07 season, for the most threes in a single game
  • Delph is averaging 16.5 points in his last two games
  • In 16 Sun Belt games this season, Justin Forrest is averaging 18.5 points, which ranks second in the league. His overall scoring average of 17.7 points also sits second in the conference
SCOUTING THE TROJANS
  • Troy fell at Coastal Carolina on Thursday evening by a 90-60 score to drop to 9-19 on the season and 5-12 in conference play
  • In Thursday's contest, Ty Gordon tallied a team-high 15 points off the bench, while Nick Stampley tallied 14 points
  • Gordon leads the team in scoring at 12.6 points. Zay Williams (11.1 ppg) and Desmond Williams (10.2 ppg) are also averaging double figures for the Trojans
  • The Trojans have made 237 three-pointers this season, which is second most in the Sun Belt
UP NEXT
App State will conclude its three-game home stand on Feb. 29 against Coastal Carolina at 4:30 p.m. on Senior Day.
