BOONE, N.C. — With all 18 team members scoring, App State Men's Basketball posted another opening-week win thanks to a 108-43 victory in its home debut Wednesday night against Christendom.
Two days removed from a 63-49 victory against Merrimack to begin the season, the Mountaineers limited their United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) opponent from northern Virginia to 31-percent shooting while going 15-for-39 from 3-point range in the Holmes Center.
Next up for App State is a Monday night game at Auburn to complete a three-game series that includes a 69-64 home win by the Mountaineers during a record-setting 2023-24 season and a 67-53 home victory by the Tigers during the 2020-21 season against an App State team that made the NCAA Tournament.
All five of App State's double-figure scorers Wednesday came off the bench, as
Mason Costello produced 15 points and
Da'Mori Lytch contributed 13 while making all five of his field-goal attempts.
Corbin Allen scored 11 points and grabbed a team-best six rebounds in his App State debut, and the Mountaineers got 10 points apiece from freshmen
Jonathan Moss and
Bryan Chretien (on 5-for-6 shooting from the field by the 7-footer).
Jaylen Colon registered five assists in the first six minutes as App State built an 18-6 lead, and the Mountaineers held a 51-15 advantage at the break.
Colon hit three 3-pointers, while Costello, Moss and
Hermann Koffi connected two times apiece from beyond the arc. Boone native
Jackson Love, a freshman, and
Luke Ledford both hit late 3s to bring excitement to a one-sided matchup.
Cameron O'Kelley hit two free throws after being fouled on a late 3-point attempt, and
Grant Clayton capped the scoring by converting a layup on his birthday.
