Peoples Named to Comeback Player of the Year Watch List

BOONE, N.C. — App State sophomore running back Camerun Peoples, who missed most of last season while recovering from a knee injury suffered in the 2019 opener, has been named to the latest watch list for the 2020 Mayo Clinic Comeback Player of the Year Award.

The 6-foot-2, 210-pound Peoples, a native of Lineville, Ala., has scored six rushing touchdowns in eight games and leads the Mountaineers with 639 rushing yards, including a combined 273 as he's made the first two starts of his career in the last two games. He rushed for a career-high 178 yards at Coastal Carolina, had a 63-yard touchdown on App State's third offensive play in a 47-10 win against Troy and is tied for the Sun Belt lead with two runs this season of at least 50 yards (both in the last two games).

Peoples suffered a season-ending knee injury during a 17-yard run against East Tennessee State in the 2019 opener, after he had rushed for a 63-yard touchdown against Middle Tennessee as a redshirting true freshman in App State's 2018 bowl game. He has averaged 6.5 yards per carry while reaching 826 career rushing yards on just 127 attempts in 12 games.

Award semifinalists will be announced in mid-December.
