LEXINGTON, Va. -- App State men's track & field finished second of seven teams at the VMI Team Challenge on Saturday.
The Mountaineers recorded 113 points in the meet. Western Carolina finished first with 127 points.
In all, the Black and Gold captured six events in the meet.
Ryan Brown etched his name in the record books in the 5,000-meter run. He won the event in a PR time of 14:38.93, which ranks sixth in program history.
Isaac Benz crossed second in the event in a PR time of 14:45.60,
Ben Cignarale was fourth in a PR time of 15:03.60 and
Gable Dershem crossed fifth in 15:06.76.
Eric Haddock Jr. continued his strong indoor season with two victories on the day. He won the long jump with a leap of 24-6.50 (7.18m), which set a new meet record. In addition, he also captured the triple jump with a mark of 48-2.00 (14.68m).
De'Shawn Ballard also won two events on the day. He captured the 60-meter dash in 6.90 seconds and also crossed first in the 200-meter dash in 21.40 seconds.
App State also took the top-two spots in the weight throw.
Peter Kenn posted a season-best toss of 56-4.25 (17.18m) to place first, with
Zachary Weinstein finishing second with a toss of 55-2.50 (16.83m).
In the high jump,
Daniel Lauffenburger cleared 6-4.75 (1.95m) to finish third and
Andrew Underdal cleared 6-2.75 (1.90m) to place fourth.
Patrick Freeman cleared 14-3.25 (4.35m) to finish fifth in the pole vault.
