BOONE, N.C. - Appalachian State University women's tennis head coach
Blake Mosley is excited to announce the signing of Cassie McLay to the 2019 recruiting class.
McLay will join Virginia Poggi and recently-signed Utah State transfer, Sasha Pisareva. The trio will join a Mountaineer squad that just came off its best season in program history with a 15-6 mark and the first women's tennis conference title in after capturing the outright Sun Belt regular-season championship.
"We're extremely happy to have Cassie join our team this fall", Mosley said. "Cassie has had some great junior results, and her attacking style will fit in perfectly with our team's identity."
A native of Boca Raton, Fla., McLay earned four varsity letters at Boca Raton Community High School. She is currently a 10 in singles and doubles on the Universal Tennis Rating (UTR) scale, posting a 16-10 mark in singles action and a 7-4 showing in doubles.
Dating back to June of 2018, McLay participated in nine singles tournaments and five doubles events. She posted a 3-0 mark in singles action at the United State Tennis Association (USTA) Florida Level 4 Summer Smash Sectional Championships in the summer of 2018. She also went 4-1 at the IMRecruitable College Tennis Showcase, highlighted by three straight victories. In her most recent outing, she picked up a pair of wins at the USTA National Winter Championships.
