JONESBORO, Ark. –
Emily Fedders recorded her second straight All-Sun Belt honor in the 10,000-meter run to lead Appalachian State women's track & field on Day 1 of the Sun Belt Championships.
Through four events on the first day of competition, the Mountaineers sit in fourth place with 17.5 points. South Alabama holds the team lead through Day 1 with 44 points.
After earning Third Team All-Sun Belt accolades last season in the 10,000-meter run, Fedders crossed second on Friday evening in a PR time of 36:33.45 for Second Team honors. Her mark also ranks as the sixth fastest time in the event in program history.
Megan Scannell also posted a top-eight finish in the 10,000-meter run, crossing fifth overall in 36:55.73.
The Mountaineers saw two place in the top-eight in the pole vault.
Hannah Emery finished in a tie for fourth with a season-best mark of 12-0.00 (3.66m), while
Silvanna Curtain finished eight with a PR mark of 11-0.25 (3.36m).
In prelim action, the Mountaineers advanced all four runners into Sunday's final of the 1,500-meter run.
Phylissa Greeley placed second in her heat and third overall with a time of 4:35.67 and
Izzy Evely placed fourth in her heat and seventh overall in a PR time of 4:36.24.
Elisa Sargent and
Sarah Venable also advanced to the finals with times of 4:39.42 and 4:41.61, respectively.
Jessica Dixon posted a PR in the 200-meter dash prelims and qualified eighth for Sunday's finals with a time of 24.55 seconds.
Women's field events on Day 2 of the Sun Belt Championships get underway on Saturday 1:30 p.m. EST with the long jump, while running events begin at 6:30 p.m. EST with the prelims of the 100-meter hurdles. Saturday's events will also be broadcast on ESPN+, beginning at 5:30 p.m. EST.
