Women's Tennis Hosts Texas Schools to Conclude Regular Season

Mountaineers Will Recognize Daniel, Morse and Swope on Sunday

BOONE, N.C. - Appalachian State University women's tennis (13-5, 7-1 SBC) looks to close out the regular season on a strong note at home against UTA (14-7, 5-2 SBC) on Friday at 10 a.m. before facing Texas State (6-11. 1-6 SBC) at 10 a.m. on Sunday for Senior Day.

Last Time Out
After falling to ULM two weekends ago, the Mountaineers bounced back with a sweep over the Georgia schools last weekend. Appalachian defeated Georgia Southern 4-1 on Friday before defeating Georgia State on Sunday, 5-2. Kate Earnhardt and Jeannez Daniel went 2-0 in singles while the Apps went 3-0 in doubles play over the two victories. Earnhardt is on a three-match win streak and Daniel has won her last five contests, which is a team best.

Senior Sendoff

Sunday's contest will mark the final home match for seniors Heidi Swope, Rebecca Morse, and Jeannez Daniel. The trio has stepped up this season with a combined mark of 30-16 in singles and a conference record of 15-3 in Sun Belt play. Swope's 12 singles wins are a career-high while Daniel's 10 victories are second on the team. Morse is tied for third with her 8-6 record and is 5-2 over her last seven matches. Daniel and Morse has teamed up in doubles to boast a 7-1 showing highlighted by six straight wins. 

Home Dominance

Over the past two seasons, the Mountaineers have been dominant at home with a 10-2 record. App State has won its last six matches at home since falling to Davidson in the season opener

Conference Numbers

App State has certainly played better in conference play with a 26-16 mark in singles (30-28 in non-conference). In doubles action, App State is 13-6 doubles during league competition. Appalachian was 15-11 in the non-conference schedule. 

Scouting UTA 

The Mavericks have won their past two contests in 4-0 sweeps over Arkansas State and most recently Texas State in San Marcos. UTA is 5-2 in conference, which is good for fourth in the Sun Belt. UTA is 10-2 at home but just 4-5 way from its home court. Five players have at least 10 victories in singles play, including three Mavericks with at least 12 victories. Lucia Natal (12 wins), Carla Pons (12 wins) and Nanaka Takeuchi (12 wins) lead the way in singles. UTA is 22-8 in league action in singles competition. Momoka Horiguchi and Pons is a team-best 9-3 in doubles play. 

Scouting Texas State

TXST is 1-4 over its last five matches with the lone win coming against Arkansas State. The Bobcats fell to in-state rival, UTA, in its most recent outing. Sunday's opponent has struggled on the road with a 2-5 record. 
Ana Perez is a team-best 10-6 in singles while Rishona Israel-Lewis is 9-6. J. Navajo-Melendez and S. Murcia-Rodriguez are 5-1 to lead the team in doubles. 


What's Next

App State will await the bracket for the Sun Belt Tournament next weekend, which takes place in Peachtree City, Ga.
