Women's Tennis to Play Four Matches in Four Days Over Spring Break

BOONE, N.C. - After a 4-3 win over College of Charleston on Sunday, Appalachian State University women's tennis (4-2) looks to build off the momentum with four matches in four days during spring break.

About the Mountaineers

Last Time Out
App State improved to 2-1 on the road and 2-0 coming off a loss after defeating College of Charleston on Sunday. The Mountaineers also won their first match of the season in which they didn't record the doubles point. María José Zacarias earned the clincher with a 6-3, 7-6 win over her counterpart. Zacarias was one of the four singles wins App registered to come from behind for the victory. Jeannez Daniel also picked her first singles win in a Black and Gold uniform yesterday. 

Wins Update
Senior Heidi Swope leads the team with five victories and a 5-1 mark. Last season, Swope wouldn't pick up her fifth win until March 20. Swope is one of four Mountaineers with at least three singles wins. Kate Earnhardt and Zacarias are 3-2, while Teodora Sevo is 3-3. Rebecca Morse also has a pair of victories. 

Streaking Doubles
Sandra Anglesjö and Teodora Sevo lead doubles play with a 4-0 mark this season with three wins as the No. 2 tandem and one victory on Court No. 3. Morse and Earnhardt are 2-1. The two doubles tandems are a combined 6-1. 

Scouting North Florida (5-6)
The Ospreys have won their last two matches against Bethune-Cookman (4-0) and most recently, Florida Gulf Coast (4-3). UNF has been a strong team at home with a 4-2 record. Four different players have at least three victories. Ana Paula Melilo is 6-4 thus far to lead the team in wins. Both Valentina Mariotto and Lucia Montano have four victories. UNF is 22-28 in singles. The Ospreys are 17-11 in doubles action. Rafaela Gomez/Constanza Gorches are a team-best 7-2 as a duo. Montana and Florencia Rossi are 5-3. 

Scouting North Carolina Central (2-5)
NCCU is coming off a 4-3 victory over Longwood on Saturday. The Eagles' Frida Cnossen has a team-high three wins in singles play. In doubles play, Emily Pena/Sofia Miller and Hannah Gaines/Cnossen are 2-3. 

Scouting NC State (12-3)
NC State is ACC team (North Carolina) App State has played this season. The Wolfpack are 8-1 at home and have won their last two contests, defeating back-to-back ranked conference opponents in then-No. 49 Louisville and then-No. 44 Notre Dame. NCSU has five players with at least 10 victories. As of Feb. 20, NC State boasted three ranked players in singles play. Anna Rogers (25th), Alana Smith (73rd) and Adriana Reami (88th) are a combined 30-11. Smith and Rogers are also the 10th-ranked doubles team at 11-2 this season to lead the doubles attack. 

What's Next
Appalachian will begin conference play next Wednesday when it travels to Coastal Carolina for a 10 a.m. match in Conway, S.C.
