NEW ORLEANS - After a stellar week in conference action, Appalachian State University women's tennis sophomore
Teodora Sevo was named the Sun Belt's Women's Tennis Player of the Week, as announced by the conference on Wednesday.
Sevo is the second player for App in as many weeks to receive a weekly conference award, as
Jeannez Daniel was honored last week. Appalachian State is the first team this season to have back-to-back award winners.
The sophomore went undefeated in singles (2-0) and doubles (2-0), playing a pivotal part in the Mountaineers' 2-0 finish in league action against South Alabama and Troy. She won both of her matches in straight sets at the top position in the lineup and as the second partners tandem in the lineup.
In the Mountaineers' thrilling 4-2 win over South Alabama, Sevo swept Alexandria Stiteler, 6-0, 6-4, after winning her doubles match with
Sandra Anglesjö. The duo defeated Stiteler/Yu Fujioka in a convincing manner, 6-1.
Against Troy, Sevo battled to a 6-4, 7-6 (8-6) win over Matea Mihaljevic, giving Sevo back-to-back singles wins for the first time this season. Her and Anglesjö earned a 6-2 win against Tingting Pei and Mihaljevic. The duo's mark of 8-2 this season is a team best.
App State is 10-4 on the year and 4-0 in the Sun Belt. Its current four-match win streak is a season long, while it's 6-1 over its last seven contests.
Sevo and the Mountaineers will take their perfect Sun Belt record into Louisiana this weekend. Appalachian will face Louisiana on Saturday at 10 a.m. before taking on the Warhawks on Sunday at 10 a.m.
