PANTHERSVILLE, GA. - Appalachian State (18-8, 6-1 SBC) fell to Georgia State (5-24, 3-4 SBC) in a seventh inning battle Friday night. The Mountaineers managed two hits and four walks but were unable to score any runs in the 1-0 loss.
Kenzie Longanecker suffered the loss in the circle. The loss ends her 11 game winning streak, giving her an 11-1 record. The streak is the longest winning streak by a pitcher in App State history.
Longanecker struck out five batters in the loss. That brings her season total to 70 strikeouts and career total to 279 for fifth all time in school history.
Jenny Dodd managed a walk continuing her now 23 game streak of reaching base safely. Dodd is second in the nation in walks with 27 this season and first in the Sun Belt conference.
The only run of the night came off a home run by Georgia State's Arden Jobe in the fifth inning. The Mountaineers loaded the bases in the seventh inning but were unable to cross home.
"I thought we played good defense and we pitched well enough to win," head coach Shelly Hoerner said. "Unfortunately, we didn't adjust soon enough on Freeman. We will go back and watch some video and bounce back tomorrow."
The Mountaineers look to even the series in game two on Saturday at 1 p.m.
