Women's Tennis Welcomes South Alabama and Troy

BOONE, N.C. - Appalachian State University women's tennis (8-4, 2-0 SBC) will host South Alabama (13-1, 2-0 SBC) and Troy (8-5, 2-0 SBC) this weekend in a pair of 10 a.m. Sun Belt matches. App State will face the Jaguars on Friday indoors at Deer Valley Racquet Club, while the Mountaineers will face the Trojans at the Mark E. Ricks Athletics Complex on Sunday.Ā

Last Time Out
The Mountaineers capped off a solid week, finishing undefeated at 2-0 after downing Arkansas State, 4-3, on the road on Sunday. App State came back in doubles play after falling in the first match. Jeannez Daniel/Rebecca Morse tied up the doubles portion with their 6-3 win on Court No. 1. MaríaĀ JoséĀ Zacarias and Heidi Swope clinched doubles play and secured the 1-0 lead for App. The Apps won their first two matches to go up 3-0. After A-State tallied a point, Kate Earnhardt clinched the win for the Black and Gold.Ā 

Sun Belt Play
After defeating the Chanticleers and Red Wolves on the road last week,Ā Ā it's the first time since 2013-14 the Apps have won multiple league matches, while it's the first time since 2012-13 the Black and Gold have won back-to-back conference contests on the road. App State is one of four 2-0 teams in the conference with South Alabama, Troy and ULM. Appalachian's eight wins are tied for the third most in the conference.Ā 

Daniel Stepping up

Daniel has stepped up her game as she's 4-1 over her last five matches after starting 1-5, while she is 5-1 over her last six doubles contests. Following a 2-0 week in singles and doubles, she was named the Sun Belt's Women's Tennis Player of the Week for the first time in her career.Ā 

Scouting South Alabama
The Jaguars have won their last three matches including the last two against Sun Belt foes in UTA and Texas State most recently. Four Jaguars have at least nine singles wins with Patricia Martins boasting an 11-0 mark, which nine wins have come in the No. 6 position. NikolaĀ KohoutovaĀ is 10-2, while she is 7-2 at the four spot. Alexandria Stiteler is 9-3 and Milka Pasanen is 9-2 for USA. South Alabama has been a tough out in singles with a 60-17 record. In doubles, USA is 28-9 with the duo of Stiteler/KohoutovaĀ boasting a 7-2 record and Martins/Pasanen displaying a 7-3 doubles mark.Ā 

Scouting Troy
Like South Alabama, the Trojans swept past the Texas schools last weekend, and are on a four-match win streak coming into the weekend. Troy will face Coastal Carolina on Friday at 1 p.m. before they arrive to the High Country. Troy is 41-29 in singles and 23-10 in doubles.Ā Pei Ju Hsieh is a team-best 9-2, whileĀ MateaĀ MihaljevicĀ is 7-5 as primarily the No. 1 in singles. Hsieh and ChunxiĀ Guo is undefeated in doubles with a 12-0 record to lead the way in doubles action.Ā 

What's Next
App State will head to the Bayou State next weekend to face Louisiana on Saturday, March 30 at 10 a.m. before facing ULM the following day at 10 a.m.Ā
