ROCK HILL, S.C. -- After opening the outdoor season last weekend, Appalachian State men's track & field will compete for the second time during the outdoor campaign on Friday and Saturday at the ADIDAS/Winthrop Invitational. Men's field events on Friday begin at 2 p.m. with the hammer throw, with running events begin at 3:30 p.m. with the prelims of the 110-meter hurdles. Saturday's field events begin at 9 a.m. with the discus, with running events starting at 10:05 a.m. with the 1,500-meter run.
LAST TIME OUT
The Mountaineers competed at the 49er Classic last weekend to begin the outdoor season. In a field of more than 1,700 participants, the Mountaineers posted six top-eight finishes during the meet:
- 5,000-Meter Run (Invite): 6. Isaac Benz, 14:50.55
- 10,000-Meter Run: 2. Ben Cignarale, 32:16.47
- 4x100-Meter Relay: 2. Brenton Ervin, De'Shawn Ballard, Elliott Graves, Jabari Johnson, 41.24
- High Jump (Open): 6. Dylan Blankenship, 5-10.00 (1.78m)
- Hammer: 4. Peter Kenn, 176-9 (53.87m)
- Discus: 8. Peter Kenn, 146-6 (44.65m)
REGIONAL RANKINGS
The NCAA East Regional Championships take place in Jacksonville, Fla. from May 23 to May 25. The top 48 individuals in each event and top 24 relay teams qualify for the regional. The Mountaineers currently have 14 individuals ranked in the top-75 in the region across seven events.

SUN BELT ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
After his performance in the 5,000-meter run at the 49er Classic,
Isaac Benz was named Sun Belt Track Athlete of the Week. His time of 14:50.55 is tops in the Sun Belt and ranks 11th the East Region.

The Mountaineers will compete at both the Pepsi Florida Relays and the Raleigh Relays on Mar. 29 and Mar. 30.
