CHARLOTTE N.C. -- Appalachian State women's track & field will open the 2019 outdoor season at the 49er Classic on Friday and Saturday. Friday's field events for the women begin at 11 a.m. with the hammer throw, with Saturday's field events beginning at 10 a.m. with the javelin. Friday's running events start at noon with the 100-meter hurdles and begin on Saturday at noon with the 4x100-meter relay.
THE FIELD
There will be 54 schools/running clubs participating and over 1,700 total athletes.
LAST SEASON
At last season's Sun Belt Championships, the Mountaineers placed fifth of 12 teams with 82.5 points. The Mountaineers saw five 2019 returners earn All- Sun Belt honors. 
Samantha Kolor and 
Emily Fedders were named All-Sun Belt in the 10,000-meter run, with 
Katelyn Butler earning All-Sun Belt accolades in the 3,000-meter steeplechase and the 5,000-meter run. 
Hannah Emery was third in the pole vault for All-Sun Belt honors and 
Phylissa Greeley finished third in the 800-meter run to garner in all-conference accolades.
RETURNERS
The Mountaineers see 29 athletes return from last season's squad. Of the returners, a total of 12 scored points at last season's Sun Belt Championships, with earning All-Sun Belt honoros across six events.

The Mountaineers will compete again on Mar. 22 and Mar. 23 at the Winthrop Invitational.
