BOONE, N.C. - Appalachian State University women's tennis travels to Blacksburg, Va. for the three-day Hokie Fall Invitational hosted by Virginia Tech.
The Mountaineers are taking part in their first fall tournament hosted by another program. App returns six of nine letterwinners from last season's 11-11 squad that won its first-ever Sun Belt Tournament over then-No. 10 seed Texas State. Its six-win improvement was tied for the largest increase in the Sun Belt.
Returning for App includes three of the four student-athletes in
Teodora Sevo, Maria José Zacarías and
Heidi Swope, who all earned all-Sun Belt singles or doubles. Also returning who played pivotal roles in the turnaround season is
Rebecca Morse and
Sandra Anglesjö. In her first season of eligibility after redshirting is
Kate Earnhardt, while the recently added transfer from Colorado
Jeannez Daniel makes up the App State roster.
App will participate in a competitive field that features Power Five programs in the Hokies, Penn State, Iowa State, and West Virginia. Marshall, James Madison, Georgia Southern Radford, VCU, Delaware, Liberty and Blue field State round out the field.
The Mountaineers return to action next weekend at the Jimmy Powell Invitational hosted by Elon.
