BOONE, N.C. – Appalachian State softball wraps up their 2018 season with a three-game series against Coastal Carolina on May 4-5. The series will begin with a doubleheader beginning at 4 p.m. on Friday and finish with a single game on Saturday, May 5 for Senior Day.
The Mountaineers are 16-33 on the season and 3-18 in the Sun Belt. Already, the Mountaineers have improved their overall record and conference record this season since joining the Sun Belt in the 2014 season. The Chanticleers are 24-27 overall and 7-16 in conference play, ranked ninth in the SBC right above the Mountaineers. On the road, CCU is 2-14 while App State is 5-8 at home.
Jenny Dodd still leads the lineup with a .345 batting average and nine home runs. Her 28 RBIs top the team category as well.
Keri White and
Alisha Josey are also hitting above .300 so far this season. A. Josey leads the team with 12 doubles, the only player to have double-digits in that column.
Kenzie Longanecker remains a competitor in the circle with a 3.39 ERA and 154.2 total innings.
Scouting the Chanticleers
CCU has taken the series victory from Georgia Southern (3-0) and most recently South Alabama (2-1). The Chants have also taken a win each from Louisiana and UTA.
Courtney Dean leads the Chanticleers at the plate with a .346 batting average. She has three triples, 14 home runs and 38 RBI. Dean has only walked five times in 133 at bats.
Junior Ashley Guillette and freshman Kaitlin Beasley-Polko have split time in the circle. Guillette has recorded 158.1 innings and a 3.71 ERA. Beasley-Polko has thrown 140.1 innings for a 3.69 ERA.
Friday's doubleheader will have a Star Wars theme as May 4 is recognized as Star Wars Day. It will also be a day of celebration as App State will recognize three seniors –
Heather Josey,
Tiffany Taynor and
Katie Williford – for their Senior Day. The Cover your Bases initiative will be Saturday's game in partnership with the American Cancer Society.
