BOONE, N.C. — The Houston Texans have won five straight games since making Kendall Lamm a starter on the offensive line.
Here's a closer look at how Lamm and other App State alums in the NFL fared during Week 8. The Mountaineers lead Sun Belt Conference programs with seven players on active rosters, as Colby Gossett is now on the 53-man roster of the Arizona Cardinals.
Lamm was first inserted into the starting lineup at right tackle before a Week 4 victory over the Indianapolis Colts. He's played well since then, notably enjoying a strong performance against the Dallas Cowboys in Week 5. Lamm held up in protection against Pro Bowl defensive end Demarcus Lawrence, holding him without a sack.
Lamm has been motivated this year to play well for his grandmother, Susan, who is battling breast cancer. To read more on that from the Houston Chronicle, click here.
On the transaction wire, there was good news for NFL rookie safety A.J. Howard, who was signed to the New York Giants' practice squad on Oct. 25. He had a strong preseason camp with the Arizona Cardinals after making 38 starts and 219 tackles in an App State career that ended in 2017.
In other news, the Cardinals signed Gossett, a rookie offensive guard, off the Minnesota Vikings' practice squad and put him on their 53-man roster Tuesday afternoon. He was a sixth-round pick of the Vikings earlier this year, and Arizona is currently heading into a bye week.
Steve Wilks, who played and coached at App State, earned his second win as a rookie head coach for the Cardinals in a close 18-15 victory over the San Francisco 49ers. Defensive end Ronald Blair had another productive outing for the 49ers in that game, recording a sack and three total tackles. Blair now has 2.5 sacks this season and 7.5 in 30 career games.
Sam Martin averaged 45.3 yards on four punts for the Detroit Lions in their loss to the Seattle Seahawks and has had 11 punts downed inside the 20-yard line this season.
Washington Redskins receiver Brian Quick was inactive after starting the previous two games, while Miami Dolphins center Daniel Kilgore and New York Jets safety Doug Middleton both remain on injured reserve with their respective clubs.
In other App State alum news, record-setting running back Marcus Cox has been selected for induction into the Dacula High School Athletics Hall of Fame. The ceremony will be Jan. 11 in Dacula, Ga.
