Postgame Notes from App State's Win at ECU

POSTGAME NOTES: App State 27, East Carolina 24
 
App State has started 2-0 in both years of the Dowell Loggains era.
 
The Mountaineers have won all four matchups against the Pirates when competing as FBS peers. It was the second straight win in Greenville after losing seven straight to the Pirates there from 1962-2012.
 
This was the Mountaineers' 38th road win since 2014, which ranks top 10 among all FBS schools in that span.

This was App State's 100th win since it became a postseason-eligible FBS member in 2015, 11th-most nationally in that span.
 
App State won the turnover battle against ECU 2-0 and is now +3 in the turnover margin after two contests.
 
OFFENSE
 
Jaquari Lewis and Treyaun Webb both scored touchdowns for the second straight game. Lewis led the rush attack with 17 carries for 73 yards.
 
Malachi Singleton – now 2-0 as App State's starting QB – completed 20 of 28 passes for 267 yards, while adding a rushing touchdown.
 
Sam Pickett III led the receiving corps in yards (86) for the second straight contest, hauling in four passes.
 
Tight end Darrin Fugitt had seven catches for 66 yards (56 after the catch). It's his most yards in a game in his college career and tied for his most catches.
 
DEFENSE
 
The Mountaineers limited the Pirates to 2 of 13 third-down conversions.
 
Caleb Sandstrom recorded a pair of sacks among his three tackles, including an early strip sack that Aaron Clark recovered and set up a short scoring drive.
 
Dre Walker came away with one of the biggest plays of the game when he snagged a toe-tapping interception along the sideline in the game's final three minutes. It was his first pick as a Mountaineer and the second of his college career.
 
Kaleb Purdy led all Mountaineers with eight tackles (including a TFL) – the most in his college career, which includes previous stops at Kansas and Tennessee Tech.
 
SPECIAL TEAMS
 
James London went 2-for-3 on field goals with makes from 41 and 37 and a miss from what would have been a school-record 59-yarder. He also made all three PATs and kicked five of six kickoffs out of the end zone (with the sixth being called for a fair catch).
 
After not punting in his App State debut a week earlier, Jaxson Dunn punted seven times for a 44.4-yard average, landing four inside the 20.
