BOONE, N.C. - Appalachian State University women's tennis turned in a strong showing on the first day of the ITA Carolina Regional Championship hosted by North Carolina in Chapel Hill.
Three players in
Teodora Sevo,
Kate Earnhardt and
Jeannez Daniel each picked up a pair of wins to insert themselves into the main draws, while
María José Zacarias had a first-round bye. It's the most players the Mountaineers have ever entered in the main draw in ITA Regionals.
Zacarias will have the test of facing the top overall seed in Marie Leduc of Clemson, while Earnhardt will take on Filippa Ericson from Charleston Southern. Daniel will go up against Lauren Procter (Winthrop) and Sevo faces Tate Schroeder of Clemson.'

Rebecca Morse and
Sandra Anglesjö both received first-round byes. Morse will face Sophia Adams (UNCG) in the Round of 16. Anglesjö battles Hanna Giddings from UNCG as well.  Both will look to advance to the quarterfinal round, which will take placeÂ

Also having a solid day was the tandem of Sevo and Morse, who won their first two matches to advance to the Round of 16 in doubles. The pairing defeated Miljana Ristic/Valentine Limague (Gardner-Webb), 8-5, before picking up a big win over Liz Norman and Natalia Nikolopoulou of ACC foe, NC State. The duo will aim to knock off another ACC opponent tomorrow as they go up against Meible Chi/Kaitlyn McCarthly (Duke), who is the third overall doubles seed in the tournament.Â

Zacarias and
Heidi Swope picked up a victory over Mayumi Saguchi/Daniela Naupari (GWU), 8-2, but fell in a hard-fought showdown against Amanda Rebol/Adriana Reami (NCSU).Â
