USA Today Names Duck a Midseason All-American

BOONE, N.C. — Appalachian State junior Clifton Duck is among the players recognized on the USA TODAY Sports midseason All-America teams that were released Tuesday.

Listed as the second-team returner, Duck ranks No. 4 nationally at 18.1 yards per punt return. He scored a touchdown on a 62-yard return against Gardner-Webb and set up a touchdown with a 52-yard return against South Alabama.

Duck has helped App State lead the nation with four special teams touchdowns and rank second with 41.4 punt return yards per game. He is one of just six players from a Group of Five conference to be recognized among the 50 midseason All-Americans.

Also a standout cornerback who was named a preseason second-team All-American at that spot by Street & Smith, Duck has 22 tackles, 1.0 tackle for loss and two pass breakups in 2018 despite having fewer passes thrown in his direction this season. Since the beginning of 2016, when he made the first of his 31 consecutive starts to date, Duck is tied for the national lead with 11 interceptions.
