Marisa Faibish Named Director of Performance Nutrition

BOONE, N.C. — Marisa Faibish has been named the Director of Performance Nutrition at Appalachian State University, Senior Associate Athletics Director Brittney Whiteside announced Friday.

The newly created position is another step in App State's commitment to the development of student-athletes on and off the playing fields.

"We are excited to welcome Marisa to the Mountaineer Family," Whiteside said. "Marisa will play a vital role in our continued efforts to support our student-athletes' overall well-being by developing nutritional strategies to enhance sport performance and encourage healthy lifestyles."

As the Director of Performance Nutrition, Faibish will oversee all aspects of the performance nutrition program for the athletics department. In her role, Faibish will create protocols regarding performance nutrition, supervise performance education and counseling, oversee the AppFuel stations and work collaboratively as an active member of the Athletic Performance team.

"I'm extremely excited to build the performance nutrition program for Appalachian State Athletics!" Faibish said. "The sky is the limit for this program, and I'm ready to hit the ground running. These athletes give their heart and soul to their sport, and I'm here to support them through performance nutrition in any way possible."

Prior to her arrival at Appalachian, Faibish worked as a performance dietetic intern for the U.S. Army Special Forces within the THOR3 program at Fort Bragg near Fayetteville, educating and consulting with the Special Forces and other Command Team members. She helped conduct sports nutrition briefs and develop menus while also conducting hydra sweat-rate tests and analyzing body composition data.

Faibish received a Bachelor of Science degree in Dietetics from Florida State in 2015 and earned her Master's degree in Exercise Physiology and Sports Nutrition from Florida State in August. She served as a student director of outreach for Florida State's Institute of Sports Sciences and Medicine after working as a student director for Florida State's Wellness Department and being a sports dietetic intern for Florida State's athletics department.

Faibish earned her certification as a sports nutritionist in 2015 and was awarded a Leadership in Service scholarship for her work with Florida State's campus recreation earlier that same year.

Born and raised in Coral Springs, Fla., Faibish has an extensive background as a competitive soccer player.
