Men's Soccer Falls to UNCG in Overtime

GREENSBORO, N.C. - Appalachian State University men's soccer (3-4-1) suffered a 1-0 setback against a tough UNCG (3-4-1) squad on the road on Saturday evening at UNCG Stadium.

Nelson Oceano poked in a shot at the 94-minute mark to seal the win for the Spartans, which was the third-straight victory for the hosts. Despite the setback, head coach Jason O'Keefe was pleased with the effort App displayed against a formidable opponent on the road.

"We're proud of the effort the team put in on the road tonight," O'Keefe stated after the match. "We will learn from this, recover and get back to work as we have another great opportunity to get better at Duke on Tuesday."

Ian Bennett would take both of Appalachian's shot attempts at the frame but just couldn't convert on the opportunities. Bennett had a chance stopped early in the first half, while his second shot at the net would have given App the 1-0 edge late in the match.

Appalachian and UNCG were neck-and-neck the entire match with five shots and two shots on goal. Jake Chasteen would get the nod for the eighth time this season, playing the whole game while coming away with a save.

The Mountaineers will look to get back on track when they play Duke on Tuesday at 7 p.m. in Durham, N.C.
