Blue Ridge to The Alps: Przybysz to Study Climate, Tourism in French Alpines

BOONE, N.C. – Appalachian State University wrestling senior Forrest Przybysz will spend time at an even higher elevation than usual in the High Country this summer when he travels to France to study abroad.

Traveling to Chamonix, France, Przybysz will look at the effects of climate change on the area and French Alps' predominantly cold-weather-dependent tourism industry. They will be observing, recording and analyzing evidence of climate change as well as surveying the local people in order to understand their perceptions on the issue as well.

"I have never had the opportunity to travel overseas so this is a great opportunity for me," Przybysz said. "I expect to gain a lot from this trip from a personal growth and maturity standpoint. I am excited to experience European culture while learning about professional research method. I hope that we will come up with some meaningful conclusions about how climate change affects tourism."

Despite Przybysz' hard drive for the work, he will also be enjoying the local culture, cuisine and entertainment, as well as "hiking the beautiful French Alpine mountains."

"Traveling abroad is often a difficult task due to the expenses, planning and the time commitment that it takes, so having the opportunity to take a trip such as this while in college is a great opportunity," Przybysz said. "Through this trip, I expect to gain travel experience, knowledge of other cultures, and an increased awareness of global issues."
