BOONE, N.C. — With only one more week left to earn points toward clinching the crown, Appalachian State University football's Battle for the Belt continued to be close with team “PrimeTime” stretching out its lead over the competition.

Co-Captained by Taylor Lamb and Shaedon Meadors, the team became the first to reach the 7,000-point mark, finishing Week 6 with 7,140. After only leading by 325 points last week over the No. 2, this week they have inched out to lead by 490 points with only one team getting fewer points from the open squat competition than them (350 points).

“Wrecking Crew” remained in second place with A.J. Howard and Josh Thomas' team holding strong at 6,650 points, while Beau Nunn and Terrence Upshaw's “The Wanted” finished with 6,236 points after leading everyone in open squats by a large margin with 425 squat points.

Teams captained by Eric Boggs and Jalin Moore (5,883 pts.), Myquon Stout and Ike Lewis (5,356 pts.), and Devan Stringer and Zy Letman (4,761 pts.) finish the week in fourth, fifth and sixth place. Colby Gossett and Antonious Sims' “Turbo Gang” (4,396 pts.) and Levi Duffield and Caleb Fuller's “Ambush” (3,504 pts.) round out the Week 6 standings.

The Battle for the Belt is Appalachian State football's offseason intra-squad competition. Points are awarded for student-athletes' achievements in the offseason strength and conditioning program, performance in the classroom, service to the community and all-around character.

Captains draft their teams for a total of 10-11 players. They compete for points via performance in team competition on Tuesday mornings. Weights, sprints, conditioning, community service, being an exemplary teammate, and putting in extra training sessions are all ways to earn points.

Points can also be earned by being a “juiceman” during training sessions. Juicemen are athletes who bring a positive attitude and relentless energy to training sessions. The tone they set is contagious and exemplifies the App State way. At the end of each session, strength coaches meet and select Juicemen for the day.

Juicemen have been influential so far allowing teams to move quickly through the standings or increase their lead. Four teams are now tied for most Juice Points with “PrimeTime”, “Wrecking Crew”, “Wanted” and “Bread Winners” all at 225 points. Team “Moneybag” moved up to 200 points while “FBG” and “Turbo Gang” have 150.
