STOCKBRIDGE, Ga. – Appalachian State closed with a team-309 to finish 10th in a field of 15 teams at the 24th Annual John Kirk Panther Intercollegiate, which wrapped up Tuesday at Eagles Landing Golf Club.
App State (+66) finished seven shots ahead of UAB (+73) and 12 ahead of Western Carolina (+78). Eastern Kentucky (+24) won a playoff with Murray State to capture the team title, while Kansas State (+26) took third. EKU's Elsa Moberly finished at 4-under for the event with a 73 (+1) on Tuesday to capture medalist honors by four strokes.
Seniors Hannah Craver (Winston-Salem, N.C.) and Emily Stinson (Charlotte, N.C.) were App State's top finishers for the tournament. Stinson closed with a 75 (+3) on Tuesday to tie for 37th with birdies on No. 9 and No. 18. Craver finished with a 79 (+7) in the final round to finish 34th.
Freshman Melany Chong (Mississauga, Canada.) closed with a 79 (+7). She was 1-over thru 10 holes after coming up with a birdie on her second hole of the day.
Sophomore Joliana Elias (Jamestown, N.C.) had a team-best four birdies on the day and was 1-under on her first seven holes in her round of 76 (+4) She had three birdies on a five-hole stretch on her back nine in also tying for 44th on the week.
Savanna Wood (Boone, N.C.) finished 66th and shot an 81 (+9) to close out the event.
App's Patricia Thompson (Granite Falls, N.C.) is tied for 70th playing as an individual and had her best round with an 81 (+9) on Tuesday.
App State hosts the Mimosa Hills Intercollegiate on Sunday and Monday at Mimosa Hills Country Club in Morganton, N.C.
