BOONE, N.C. – Appalachian State softball signed Taylor Thorp on Wednesday, Nov. 8, for the 2018-19 roster.
A three-year Academic Scholar at Lincoln High School, Thorp earned a spot on the FACA all-state all-academic softball team for the past three years. During her junior year, she was inducted into the National Honors Society and made the Tallahassee Community College Dean's List as a dual-enrollment student.
Thorp will join the Mountaineers as a catcher and utility player. She earned the Lincoln High School softball second team All-Big Bend as a freshman and first team as a sophomore and junior. She was recognized with honorable mention for the high school golf All-Big Bend during her sophomore and junior years also.
In addition, she earned the team's MVP award during her sophomore and junior seasons. All three years of her high school career to date she has earned FACA all-state awards with a FACA Softball District 1-8A Player of the Year award for 2016-2017.

Shelly Hoerner states, "We look forward to Taylor being a Mountaineer. She is a true student of the game and loves to play ball. Taylor's blue-collar mentality and passion to win are what we are looking to add to our program. Her ability to command the entire field behind the plate will help raise our level of play. Taylor has a very fundamental swing and will add consistency to our lineup. Her team first mentality is something we love. We are excited to welcome Taylor to our App State softball family."
Thorp is from Tallahassee, Fla. and attends Lincoln High School. She plays travel softball for the Sante Fe Inferno.
