BOONE, N.C. — Former Appalachian State University football student-athletes Pierre Banks and Karl Anderson will join Appalachian State University football radio broadcasts. Banks will serve as the analyst and Anderson will serve as the sideline reporter for the Appalachian IMG Sports Network, announced by director of athletics Doug Gillin on Friday.
Banks, a former Mountaineer standout on the gridiron, played in an NCAA all-divisions record 62 games from 2004-08. He played in three games as a true freshman before suffering an injury and receiving a medical redshirt. He went on to play in each of the Mountaineers' 59 games from 2005-08.
For his career, Banks was a three-time all-Southern Conference selection and landed on the first team his final two seasons. In 2006, Banks led the team with 110 total tackles and ranks eighth in program history with 373 total tackles for his career. He was also a National Academic All-Star and Draddy Award semifinalist.
Anderson, currently an academic advisor for the football team, played four years as a linebacker for the Mountaineers from 2010-13. On the field, Anderson was a hard-nosed, high energy linebacker who played a pivotal role in the Mountaineers' linebacking corps. He led the team in tackles with 113 during the 2013 season.
He was a four-time academic Southern Conference honoree.
