LAFAYETTE, La. - The seventh-ranked team in the nation, UL Lafayette, won a pair of five-inning games over Appalachian State University softball on Saturday with scores of 13-4 and 14-2.

The Mountaineers fell to 9-39 overall, 2-18 in the Sun Belt, and the conference's top team, the Ragin' Cajuns, improved to 34-6, 15-1 in league play. ULL has now won 27 consecutive Sun Belt series dating back to March of 2013.

For the day, Pepper Butler and Heather Josey each had three hits while Cara Parker had a couple of her own. Butler mentioned how much she likes playing against the Ragin' Cajuns and she has a point. In four career games against them, she is 6-for-9 with three runs scored and two RBI.

Game One: UL Lafayette 13, App State 4 (5 Inn.)

In the twinbill's opening inning, the Black and Gold struck first to go up 1-0. With two outs, Parker doubled to right center before Josey brought her in with a single to left center. However, ULL tied the game up 1-1 in the home half of the first before scoring nine runs in the second to take a commanding 10-1 advantage.

In the top of the third, App State scored its final three runs with Butler's RBI single and Katie Mathewson's two-run double. UL Lafayette added three more runs in the bottom of that inning to win by way of the run rule.

The Mountaineers had a total of eight hits in the first game and became the first Sun Belt team to have more than seven in a single contest against the Ragin' Cajuns this year. Individually, Butler had her first three-hit game since April 22 of last season and both her and Parker reached base in all three of their plate appearances. Also, Mathewson tallied multiple RBI in a game for the first time since April 18 of last season when she had three.

Game Two: UL Lafayette 14, App State 2 (5 Inn.)

For the nightcap, UL Lafayette scored three runs in the first and 11 in the second. Appalachian State's two runs came from Tiffany Taynor's RBI single in the third and Josey's solo shot in the fourth.

Taynor snapped an eight-game skid without an RBI and Josey's blast marked her eighth of the season, which surpassed her career high of seven set in 2015. The sophomore also brought in a run in back-to-back games for the first time since March 18-19 against Troy.

Next up, App State will round out the series with No. 7 UL Lafayette on Sunday and game three's start time is set for 1 p.m. ET.
